YWCA South Florida announces leadership addition with new COO

YWCA South Florida has announced an update to its leadership team with the addition of a new chief operating officer, Veronica D. Brown, a local leader in the South Florida community. Brown’s professional career spans more than 20 years in the public and private sectors. She officially assumed her new leadership role at YWCA on May 16.As COO, Brown will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations within the national nonprofit’s South Florida association. She will actively participate in leadership decision-making processes and work to expand YWCA South Florida’s programs throughout the communities the organization serves.“We are thrilled to welcome Veronica into our YWCA family,” says Kerry-Ann Royes, YWCA South Florida’s president and CEO. “Veronica’s leadership track record speaks for itself. Her commitment to our community is second to none.”“Our team cannot wait to see how her leadership will elevate our mission to eliminate racism and empower women across South Florida.”Prior to joining YWCA, Brown was the Assistant Department Director for the Miami-Dade County Internal Services Department (ISD). Prior to assuming that role, she served as a director for the Real Estate Development Division within ISD. Brown provided leadership to departmental and divisional strategies, and policy and procedures to effectively deliver comprehensive internal support services for ongoing operations of County government. She also served as the county representative for all sports-related contracts with the Miami Marlins, Miami Heat and Miami Dolphins, as well as on the team that successfully secured naming rights for FTX Arena.Brown also worked with LifeSouth Community Blood Centers, where she successfully introduced the first-ever public cord blood donation program at Jackson Memorial Hospital and oversaw community outreach in South Florida.Before relocating back to Miami in 2013 to be closer to family, Brown worked in Washington, DC, as a senior consultant and program manager for Concepts Solutions, an IT consulting company.She began her career as a government consultant supporting Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) contracts as a technical writer for BAE Systems. She was subsequently promoted to a special assignment supporting the Joint Planning and Development Office (JPDO) and, later, under Concept Solutions, would oversee a $32 million contract supporting the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) program as a program manager.Brown received her bachelor’s degree from Hampton University in Hampton, VA.
