SEW-REDI Speaker Series: "Black Santa" - A Conversation with Playwright Aaron Mays
Join us on for a discussion with Aaron Mays, playwright of "Black Santa," playing at the Adrienne Arsht Center now through December 22. The story begins when a third grader declares "Santa Claus is a Black man from Detroit," sending her school into chaos. When Patrice Patterson, the school's only Black teacher, is asked to create a campaign to make Santa white again, she must confront questions of identity and self-preservation. Through our SEW-REDI Speaker Series, we'll explore how this absurdist comedy challenges racial bias and examines representation in unexpected places. We'll talk with Mays about bringing this story to life and his journey as a playwright.
The SEW-REDI Initiative is led by YWCA South Florida and funded in part by The Children’s Trust,
